Event Details

In his latest work, reConstruction, composer, artist and CU student Ryan Wurst examines the nature of dreams and memory with altered piano, video, laptop and found objects. Wurst explained, "How do we create memory from almost nothing? My piece explores that nostalgia, trauma and joy that comes with memory."

Wurst will perform solo on piano and laptop. The sounds of the piano will be modified by the placement of objects in its strings, thus expanding its range, texture and quality. The piano sounds will be further modified in real time by computer.

Video from home movies, historical and cultural subjects will be projected on to white-washed objects found on CraigsList. "I'm going for that dream-like place, where emotion is awakened," Wurst said.

The piece will run about 45 minutes.

Admission is free.
